Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have heard at least some of the hype surrounding the release of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. Everyone has gone 1920’s crazy if the number of finger wave requests I’m getting is anything to go by.
Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending Village Cinemas Great Gatsby opening party here in Melbourne. Feathers, sequins, fringing, beading and Moet abound. It was a rare treat to have an evening out with Mr. SKM as we’re usually either working, travelling or sleeping (doh!), but it made us remember just how good a fun night out at the movies together can be. He in his swanky high waisted pants and button braces, and me in my black sequinned jersey and antique fur; the swank in our wardrobe had a chance to come out and play for #dressforgatsby.
Everyone really made an effort to see this film in with style, and it was a very welcome change of pace for me to see so many gorgeously bedecked cinemagoers. There was an overload of fringing and feathers as far as the eye could see, and even the chaps had done a commendable effort in pulling together a look far more dapper than their usual threads.
These two ladies were my favourite for their outfit choices last night. They combined both glamour and restraint to pull together looks that really worked for them. The headwear they chose was just superb and had a very authentic feel.
I love the use of burnt orange and cream in these outfits, a very period accurate colour choice. These ladies had managed to take the essence of the Gatsby look and translate it perfectly for 2013.
Kicking off the evening with a bottle of Moet should be mandatory before viewing Gatsby; putting you in just the right sparkling mood to match your outfit.
The Great Gatsby is now showing in Village Cinemas, and is the perfect opportunity for you to get in on the glittery goods. Get together with a bunch of pals, plan some pre-show drinks in Gold Class and do the night in style.
Want to WIN a Double pass thanks to Village Cinemas to see the movie for yourself?
Leave me a comment describing your perfect #DressforGatsby outfit and the one I’m most jealous of wins!
